Philippines’ President Rodrigo Duterte / AFP PHOTO / KAZUHIRO NOGI Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte announced Thursday the military would take a leading role in his deadly drug war, while vowing to kill more traffickers and addicts. “I’m taking in the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) and raising the issue of drugs as a national security threat so that I will call on all the armed forces to assist,” Duterte said, while promising to kill more “son of a bitch” drug addicts. WHO’s Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of NCDs 2013-2020 recommends that inactive people start with “small amounts of physical activity” and then gradually increase duration, frequency and intensity over time. Physical activity can be any activity, not just sport, that uses energy – from playing and doing household chores to gardening and dancing. The UN agency highlighted 10 facts and benefits of

Washington - A waitress in Washington received a $450 (R6 000) tip with a note promoting unity from a Donald Trump supporter who attended his inauguration. WUSA reports Rosalyn Harris says she figured the three men at Busboys & Poets eatery earlier this week were from the south because of the cowboy hats they were wearing. The men are from West Texas and were in Washington for the presidential inauguration last week. Harris says the restaurant typically attracts people who are more liberal. After the meal, Harris was clearing the table when she spotted the tip and the note. The note read, “We may come from different cultures, and we may disagree on certain issues, but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people, not race, not gender, just American. God bless.” We rise by lifting others. A lovely act of kindness by a guest

Nigerian soldier jailed for killing civilian

Lagos - A Nigerian soldier has been jailed for seven years for killing a man at a market in the country's northeast, the army announced, in a rare sanction of military excesses against civilians. The soldier, whose name was not disclosed, was found guilty of manslaughter for shooting dead Umar Alkali at the Monday Market in the key city of Maiduguri on December 23, 2015. A court martial rejected the soldier's not guilty plea and claim that he shot Alkali in self-defence and to protect his colleagues because he had tried to seize his rifle. The panel ruled he had used "disproportionate force", Nigerian Army spokesman Colonel Sani Usman said in a statement on Wednesday evening. Human rights groups have repeatedly accused Nigeria's military of abuses against civilians during the Boko Haram conflict, including arbitrary arrest, torture and extrajudicial killing. Thousands of people have been rounded up and held for long periods without charge on suspicion of link
